देवदत्तां पतिर्भा्या वेत्ति धर्मस्य शासनात् । स दैवीं मानुषी वाचमनृतां पर्युदस्यति
devadattāṁ patir bhāryāṁ vetti dharmasya śāsanāt | sa daivīṁ mānuṣīṁ vācam anṛtāṁ paryudasyati ||
भीष्म ने कहा—धर्मशास्त्र की आज्ञा के अनुसार जो स्त्री न्यायपूर्वक पति को प्राप्त होती है, उसे वह देवदत्त-सी अपनी पत्नी मानता है। इसलिए वह उसे भाग्य-प्रदत्त समझकर स्वीकार करता है और उस विवाह को अयोग्य बताने वाली मनुष्यों की झूठी बातों को त्याग देता है।
