Brahmā’s Secondary Creation, Kāla (Eternal Time), and the Taxonomy of Species

तद्विलोक्य वियद्व्यापि पुष्करं यदधिष्ठितम् । अनेन लोकान् प्राग्लीनान् कल्पितास्मीत्यचिन्तयत् ॥ ७ ॥

तब उन्होंने देखा कि जिस कमल पर वे स्थित थे वह समस्त आकाश में व्याप्त है, और उन्होंने मन में विचार किया—इसी में पहले लीन हुए लोकों की मैं फिर से रचना करूँगा।

The seeds of all the planets in the universe were impregnated in the lotus on which Brahmā was situated. All the planets were already generated by the Lord, and all the living entities were also born in Brahmā. The material world and the living entities were all already generated in seedling forms by the Supreme Personality of Godhead, and Brahmā was to disseminate the same seedlings all over the universe. The real creation is therefore called sarga, and, later on, the manifestation by Brahmā is called visarga.

This verse describes Brahmā seeing the vast lotus in space and understanding it as the instrument by which he will re-manifest the worlds that had merged during dissolution.

After perceiving the cosmic lotus on which he was situated, Brahmā recognized it as the divinely arranged basis and empowerment for his task of organizing creation after pralaya.

It highlights purposeful reflection before action: like Brahmā assessing his foundation and duty, one can pause, understand one’s resources and responsibility, and then act in alignment with a higher order.
