Sukta 4
अनपत्यमल्पपशुं वशा कृणोति पूरुषम्। ब्राह्मणैश्च याचितामथैनां निप्रियायते
anapatyám alpapáśuṁ vaśā́ kṛṇóti pū́ruṣam | brāhmaṇáiś ca yācitā́m áthainā́ṁ nipriyā́yate ||
Childless, scant of cattle, the vāśā maketh a man—(even) when demanded by the Brahmans; and then toward her he waxeth ill-affected (and refuseth).
वशा मनुष्य को अपत्यहीन और अल्प-पशुधन वाला कर देती है—(विशेषतः) जब ब्राह्मणों द्वारा याचित होकर भी (उसे) न दिया जाए; तब वह उसके प्रति अप्रिय-भाव (द्वेष) धारण करता है और (दान से) विमुख होता है।
