FAQs

It defines the pūrvaraṅga as a rule-governed preliminary rite of dramatic performance, specifying that it includes nāndīmukha introductions and is structured into thirty-two aṅgas (components).

By cataloging technical knowledge of Sanskrit dramaturgy (nāṭya)—including formal preliminaries and their subdivisions—it shows the text’s coverage beyond theology into performing-arts śāstra and applied ritual aesthetics.

Performing the pūrvaraṅga “according to rule” frames theatre as an auspicious, consecrated act: the nāndīmukha benedictions and ordered components are meant to invoke prosperity and remove obstacles before the main performance.
