Śāva-āśauca and Sūtikā-śauca: Death/Childbirth Impurity, Preta-śuddhi, and Śrāddha Procedure
Chapter 157
मन्त्रवर्जमिदं कर्म शूद्रस्य तु विधीयते सपिण्डीकरणं स्त्रीणां कार्यमेवं तदा भवेत्
mantravarjamidaṃ karma śūdrasya tu vidhīyate sapiṇḍīkaraṇaṃ strīṇāṃ kāryamevaṃ tadā bhavet

Concept: Adhikāra (ritual authorization) modifies mantra-use, not the ethical duty of ancestral rites; karma (action) can stand even when mantra is omitted.
Application: When mantra-recitation is restricted, keep the same sequence of offerings and separations; ensure sapīṇḍīkaraṇa is performed to ritually ‘join’ the departed with pitṛs.

Related Themes: Agni Purana 157 (sapīṇḍīkaraṇa and preta-to-pitṛ transition procedures)
It specifies eligibility and performance mode for sapīṇḍīkaraṇa and related post-death rites: for a Śūdra the act is to be done without mantra-recitation, and for women the sapīṇḍīkaraṇa is to be carried out in the same prescribed manner.
It records a practical, rule-based detail of dharma and ritual procedure—who performs which ancestral rite and with what liturgical components—showing the text’s coverage beyond mythology into applied ritual law (śrāddha, pitṛkriyā).
By correctly performing sapīṇḍīkaraṇa according to one’s eligibility (with or without mantras), the departed is ritually integrated among the pitṛs, supporting ancestral satisfaction and the performer’s purification and merit.
