This verse primarily gives the śravaṇa-phala (benefit of hearing): listening to the Kūrma-avatāra narrative is described as pāpa-praṇāśana (sin-destroying), establishing a devotional-practice framework rather than a manual technique.
It functions as a structural marker and thematic shift—closing the Matsya section and opening the Kūrma section—showing how the Agni Purāṇa organizes wide-ranging material into systematic chapters, here within the avatāra-corpus.
It asserts that hearing (śravaṇa) the Kūrma-avatāra account itself is meritorious and purificatory, framing the narrative as a means of karmic cleansing through devotional engagement with Vishnu’s incarnations.
