It gives a practical prayashchitta-oriented instruction: perform the pavitraka (a consecratory purification act/rite) and recite a purification prayer so the doer’s duṣkṛta (wrongdoing) is ritually cleansed through divine grace.
Alongside topics like governance, medicine, and warfare, the Agni Purana also preserves detailed puja-vidhi—short, functional liturgical formulas used in real ritual settings—showing its role as a compendium of applied religious practice.
The verse frames purification as both ritual (pavitraka) and devotional (seeking prasāda): karmic impurity from duṣkṛta is acknowledged, and purity is sought through prescribed rite plus surrender to the Lord’s grace.
