sūta uvāca | etasminnaṃtare prāpto yakṣmākhyo dāruṇo gadaḥ | acikitsyo'pi devānāṃ tathā dhanvaṃtarerapi
Sūta
Scene: Sūta narrates as a dark, wasting disease-personified (Yakṣmā) approaches; even celestial physicians appear powerless, creating a stark contrast with the luminous tīrtha that will later heal.
Purāṇas often present human suffering as a turning point that reveals the superior refuge of tīrtha, devotion, and divine grace.
The ongoing Nāgarakhaṇḍa kuṇḍa/tīrtha narrative; the disease episode sets up the tīrtha’s healing and purifying fame.
None directly; this verse introduces the ailment that motivates subsequent tīrtha-related remedy or vow.
