śrīmārkaṇḍeya uvāca | tato'sau tvarito vindhyaṃ nāgo gatvā nagaṃ śubham | tapastaptuṃ samārebhe śaṅkarārādhanodyataḥ

શ્રી માર્કંડેયે કહ્યું—પછી તે નાગ ત્વરિત વિંધ્યમાં ગયો. શુભ પર્વત પર પહોંચી, શંકરની આરાધના કરવા ઉત્સુક થઈ તેણે તપ શરૂ કર્યું।
