Bāṇa’s Renewed Engagement in Battle
dattaṃ mayā purā tubhyamanivāryaṃ raṇe tava | cakraṃ jayaṃ ca govinda nivartasva raṇāttataḥ
Lord Shiva (inferred, addressing Vishnu as Govinda within the Yuddhakhaṇḍa battle narrative)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Rudra
Role: liberating
The verse highlights Shiva as Pati—the supreme Lord who grants power and also sets its righteous limits. Even an “irresistible” boon operates under divine order, teaching surrender to Shiva’s will above personal valor.
It reflects Saguna Shiva as the personal, directive Lord who intervenes in history and guides even Vishnu. Linga-worship trains the devotee to recognize this governing presence of Shiva behind all power, victory, and restraint.
A practical takeaway is japa of the Panchakshara—“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”—with the attitude of nivṛtti (withdrawal from ego-driven conflict), offering one’s strength and outcomes to Shiva, optionally after applying Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) as a reminder of surrender.
