शङ्खचूडदूतागमनम् — The Arrival of Śaṅkhacūḍa’s Envoy
and Praise of Śiva
दूत उवाच । शंखचूडस्य दूतोऽहं त्वत्सकाशमिहागतः । वर्तते ते किमिच्छाद्य तत्त्वं ब्रूहि महेश्वर
dūta uvāca | śaṃkhacūḍasya dūto'haṃ tvatsakāśamihāgataḥ | vartate te kimicchādya tattvaṃ brūhi maheśvara
Dūta (messenger of Śaṅkhacūḍa)
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Īśāna
It contrasts worldly power with divine truth: the messenger demands Shiva’s “intention,” but Maheśvara’s will is rooted in tattva—upholding dharma and liberating beings, not ego-driven desire.
Addressing Shiva as “Maheśvara” highlights Saguna Shiva as the accessible Lord who engages with the world’s events; Linga-worship similarly approaches the transcendent Pati through a manifest, worshipful form.
A practical takeaway is to purify one’s icchā (intention) before worship—begin japa of the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) and offer bhasma/tripuṇḍra with the resolve to seek tattva (truth) rather than mere outcomes.
