कामास्त्रं कामदेवोऽथ ददौ तस्मै मुदान्वितः । गदां ददौ स्वविद्याश्च तस्मै च परया मुदा
kāmāstraṃ kāmadevo'tha dadau tasmai mudānvitaḥ | gadāṃ dadau svavidyāśca tasmai ca parayā mudā
પછી આનંદથી ભરેલા કામદેવે તેને કામાસ્ત્ર આપ્યું; પરમ હર્ષથી ગદাও આપી અને પોતાની ગુપ્ત વિદ્યાઓ પણ અર્પણ કરી।

The verse shows that even powers connected with desire (kāma) can be subordinated to dharma when granted as disciplined instruments; in Shaiva Siddhānta, true auspiciousness comes when such energies are mastered and directed under the higher aim of devotion to Pati (Śiva).
By contrast, weapons and esoteric skills are external attainments, while Linga/Saguṇa-Śiva worship trains the devotee to restrain and purify desire; the narrative highlights that gifts are secondary to the inner transformation cultivated through Śiva-bhakti.
A practical takeaway is to pair any pursuit of power or success with daily japa of the Pañcākṣarī (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) and self-restraint, so that kāma is governed by devotion rather than becoming a binding pāśa (fetters).
