का त्वं भवसि रुद्राणां मरुतां वा वरानने।वसूनां वा वरावोहे देवता प्रतिभासि मे।।।।
kā tvaṃ bhavasi rudrāṇāṃ marutāṃ vā varānane |
vasūnāṃ vā varārohe devatā pratibhāsi me ||
હે વરાનને, હે વરાવોહે! તું કોણ છે? શું તું રુદ્રોમાંની, કે મરુતોમાંની, કે વસુઓમાંની છે? મને તો તું દેવતા સમી જ દેખાય છે.
Neither gandharvas, nor kinnaras, nor gods move here. This is only a dwelling place for the demons. How did you come here ?
The verse illustrates how adharma may cloak itself in polite speech and praise; dharma requires vigilance so that courtesy is not exploited.
Rāvaṇa begins conversation with Sītā by praising her beauty and suggesting she seems divine.
Sītā’s dignity and auspicious presence are acknowledged, while the scene foreshadows the need for discernment against manipulative speech.
