आर्तस्वरं हन्यमानं हतं च विकीर्णकेशास्थिकपालसंघम् । प्रजापते: कर्म यथार्थनिश्ितं तदा दृष्टवा तप्स्यति मन्दबुद्धि:
ārtasvaraṃ hanyamānaṃ hataṃ ca vikīrṇakeśāsthikapālasaṅgham | prajāpateḥ karma yathārthaniścitaṃ tadā dṛṣṭvā tapsyati mandabuddhiḥ ||
સંજય બોલ્યા—ત્યારે મન્દબુદ્ધિ દુર્યોધન રણભૂમિ જોઈ અંદરથી દહન પામશે—આર્ત ચીસો પાડતા લોકો, કોઈ માર ખાઈ રહ્યો છે, કોઈ માર્યો પડી રહ્યો છે; ચારે તરફ વિખેરાયેલા વાળ, હાડકાં અને ખોપરીઓના ઢગલા. આ બધું જાણે પ્રજાપતિનું સત્ય અને નિશ્ચિત કર્મ હોય—એવું જોઈ તે પશ્ચાત્તાપથી તપશે.
