व्यवहारं गदायुद्धे पार्थिवस्थ च पातनम् | तदाख्याय तत: सर्वे द्रोणपुत्रस्य भारत ।।
sañjaya uvāca |
vyavahāraṃ gadāyuddhe pārthivasya ca pātanam |
tad ākhyāya tataḥ sarve droṇaputrasya bhārata ||
(vārtikā: duḥkhasaṃtaptāḥ śokopahatacetasaḥ |
dhyātvā ca suciraṃ kālaṃ jagmur āgatā yathāgatam ||)
સંજય બોલ્યા—હે ભારત! ગદાયુદ્ધનો વ્યવહાર અને રાજાનો પાતન—આ બધું દ્રોણપુત્રને કહીને તે વાર્તાવાહકો દુઃખથી સંતપ્ત અને શોકથી આઘાતગ્રસ્ત ચિત્તવાળા બની લાંબા સમય સુધી વિચારમગ્ન રહ્યા; પછી આર્ત અને વ્યાકુળ થઈ જેમ આવ્યા હતા તેમ જ ચાલ્યા ગયા।
