Cyavana Explains His Tests; Kuśika Seeks Brāhmaṇya for His Line (च्यवन–कुशिक संवादः)
निश्चित्य मनसा सर्व गुणदोषबलाबलम् | दग्धुकाम: कुलं सर्व कुशिकानां तपोधन:
niścitya manasā sarva-guṇa-doṣa-balābalam | dagdhukāmaḥ kulaṃ sarvaṃ kuśikānāṃ tapodhanaḥ |
ભીષ્મે કહ્યું—પૂર્વકાળે જ ભૃગુપુત્ર ચ્યવનને જાણ થઈ હતી કે કુશિકવંશની કન્યასთან વૈવાહિક સંબંધ થવાથી તેના પોતાના વંશમાં ક્ષાત્રત્વનો મહાદોષ ઊભો થશે. તેથી તે તપોધન મુનિશ્રેષ્ઠે મનમાં સર્વ ગુણ-દોષ તથા બલ-અબલનું વિચારમંથન કરીને દૃઢ નિશ્ચય કર્યો અને કુશિકોના સમગ્ર કુળને ભસ્મ કરવા ઇચ્છે કુશિક રાજા પાસે ગયો.
