Ādi-parva Adhyāya 132 — Duryodhana’s Instructions to Purocana at Vāraṇāvata

स मुहूर्तादिव पुनद्रोंणस्तं प्रत्यभाषत । मानो दो घड़ी और बिताकर द्रोणाचार्य फिर उनसे बोले || ७४ $ ।।
sa muhūrtād iva punar droṇas taṃ pratyabhāṣata | atha vṛkṣam imaṃ māṃ vā bhrātṝn vāpi prapaśyasi |
થોડા વિરામ પછી દ્રોણાચાર્ય ફરી બોલ્યા—“શું તું આ વૃક્ષને, મને, અથવા તારા ભાઈઓને પણ જોઈ રહ્યો છે?”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Mastery requires disciplined attention: the student must learn to focus on the intended target and exclude distractions, so that power or skill is exercised responsibly and precisely.
Droṇa resumes testing the student after a short pause, asking whether he sees the tree, the teacher, or his brothers—probing whether the student’s perception is narrowed to the task or scattered among surrounding objects.
