Vidya Category: {"primary_vidya":"Samanya","secondary_vidya":"Dharmashastra","practical_application":"Serves as an index of disciplines covered/valued—useful for mapping Agni Purāṇa’s encyclopedic scope and for planning integrated education (dharma, hermeneutics, logic, medicine, history/itihāsa-purāṇa, warfare, music).","sutra_style":true}

Encyclopedic Reference: {"reference_type":"List","entry_title":"Śāstra-saṅgraha: Nirukta, Dharmaśāstra, Mīmāṃsā, Nyāya, Ayurveda, Purāṇa, Dhanurveda, Gandharvaveda","lookup_keywords":["Nirukta","Dharmaśāstra","Mīmāṃsā","Nyāya","Gandharvaveda"],"quick_summary":"Catalogs major knowledge systems: interpretation (nirukta), law/ethics (dharmaśāstra), ritual exegesis (mīmāṃsā), logic (nyāya), health (āyurveda), sacred history (purāṇa), warfare (dhanurveda), and music/performing arts (gandharva)."}

Concept: Aparā learning is multi-disciplinary: meaning (nirukta), normativity (dharma), reasoning (nyāya), ritual hermeneutics (mīmāṃsā), and practical sciences (āyurveda, dhanurveda, gandharva) together sustain ordered life and prepare the mind.

Application: Adopt an integrated sādhanā of competence: dharma for conduct, nyāya for clarity, mīmāṃsā for disciplined action, āyurveda for bodily support, gandharva for refinement, dhanurveda for protection—then turn toward para-vidyā (as in 382.4).

FAQs

It catalogs major śāstric disciplines—Vedic exegesis (Nirukta), law and duty (Dharmaśāstra), ritual hermeneutics (Mīmāṃsā), logic (Nyāya), medicine (Āyurveda), sacred history (Purāṇa), military science (Dhanurveda), and music/performing arts (Gandharvaveda).

By explicitly enumerating diverse knowledge-systems spanning ritual interpretation, jurisprudence, epistemology, healthcare, martial training, and arts, it frames the Agni Purana as a consolidated reference work rather than a single-theme scripture.

The verse signals that dharma and right living are supported by disciplined knowledge—ethical law, correct ritual understanding, sound reasoning, bodily well-being, and refined arts—encouraging holistic cultivation aligned with purificatory and dharmic aims.
