FAQs

This verse primarily transmits Purāṇic genealogical knowledge—succession of rulers and variant name-readings across recensions—rather than a ritual procedure or a specialized vidyā like Ayurveda or Dhanurveda.

By preserving king-lists and multiple textual variants (alternate names such as Kāśadīrghatamā/Suta/Prabhāvavān), it functions as a reference-register of traditional historiography—one of the Agni Purāṇa’s encyclopedic strands alongside ritual, law, and sciences.

Remembering and transmitting righteous lineages is treated in Purāṇic culture as dharma-supporting smṛti (sacred recollection), reinforcing continuity of dharmic kingship and the merit of preserving sacred tradition.
