FAQs

This verse imparts vamśa-vidyā (genealogical knowledge): a precise succession of births in the Vrishni line—used to authenticate identities, patronymics (like “Sātyaki”), and historical placement of figures.

By preserving structured dynastic records (vamśānucarita), the Agni Purana functions as a reference compendium—cataloging lineages that connect Purāṇic tradition with epic characters (e.g., Sātyaki/Yuyudhāna), alongside its many other domains (ritual, polity, medicine, poetics).

Genealogical recital supports smṛti and śraddhā: remembering righteous lineages and renowned devotees/warriors is treated as a meritorious act that strengthens continuity of dharma and reverence for sacred history.
