It imparts sahitya-vidya (kavya/natya theory): the five arthaprakṛtis—standard plot constituents used to design and analyze Sanskrit drama and narrative composition.
By codifying technical dramaturgical vocabulary (arthaprakṛtis and ceṣṭās), the Agni Purana functions as a compendium not only of ritual and dharma but also of classical literary science used by poets, playwrights, and commentators.
While primarily technical, it supports dharmic communication: well-structured drama and poetry were traditional vehicles for teaching dharma and devotion effectively, making sacred and ethical instruction more intelligible and impactful.
