Agni Purana — Raja-dharma, Shloka 12

Rājanīti (Statecraft): Ṣaḍvidha-bala, Vyūha-vidhāna, and Strategic Warfare

ityādau svacamūṃ rakṣet prasainyaṃ ca ghatayet viśiṣṭo deśakālābhyāṃ bhinnaviprakṛtirbalī

FAQs

Dhanurveda/Yuddha-nīti: protect one’s own camū (battle-array) while targeting the enemy’s forward troops, and continually adapt tactics to terrain (deśa) and timing (kāla).

It shows the Agni Purana functioning as a practical compendium: alongside theology and ritual, it preserves operational guidance on warfare—formation-protection, enemy disruption, and situational command judgment.

By emphasizing disciplined, context-aware conduct rather than reckless violence, the verse frames warfare as a regulated duty (nīti) where right method and restraint reduce adharma and its karmic burden.
