Related Themes: Agni Purana 231 (Śakuna chapter); Agni Purana 232 (Yātrā-maṇḍala-cintā and yātrā-vidhi)
It introduces Śakuna-śāstra (omen-reading) and yātrā-śāstra (journey/expedition prognostics), including astrological disqualifications for travel such as a planet being set (astaṅgata), debilitated (nīca), afflicted (vikala), or placed in an enemy sign (ripu-rāśi).
Beyond theology, it catalogs practical statecraft tools—omens, astrology, and decision-making frameworks for royal journeys—showing the Agni Purāṇa as a compendium spanning governance (rājadharma) and applied Jyotiṣa.
By aligning royal action with rājadharma and auspicious timing, the text frames political decisions as dharmically accountable acts—reducing harm, avoiding inauspicious undertakings, and preserving order (dharma) through disciplined choice.
