tathāvidhannaraḥ paśyetsāraṅgaṃ prathame 'hani ātmanaś ca tathātvena jñātavyaṃ vatsaraṃ phalaṃ

It teaches shakuna-jñāna (omen-reading): an auspicious/indicative sighting (here, a sāraṅga deer) on the first day is used to infer the year-long outcome for the observer.
Alongside theology and ritual, the Agni Purana preserves applied predictive systems (Jyotiṣa and omens), showing how daily observations were systematized into practical guidance for forecasting results over longer cycles like a year.
It frames the first day as a karmically sensitive threshold where signs mirror forthcoming fruition, encouraging disciplined observance and mindful interpretation of auspicious indicators.
