FAQs

It imparts nighaṇṭu-vidyā (lexicographic knowledge): standardized Sanskrit synonymy for animals (boar, wolf, spider, monkey) used in interpretation, composition, and accurate reading of scriptures.

By preserving a compact Sanskrit thesaurus inside the Purana—mapping multiple regional/poetic terms to a single referent—supporting grammar, kavya usage, and precise comprehension across diverse textual traditions.

Its value is primarily intellectual and hermeneutic: correct word-knowledge (śabda-jñāna) helps prevent misreading of dharma and ritual passages, thereby supporting right understanding and proper practice.
