Reconciliation of Action and Knowledge: Offering All Acts to Nārāyaṇa and the Hymn to the Yajña-Puruṣa

वसत्यविरतं प्रातःस्नायी त्रिषवणे रतः । नाम्ना संयमनः पूर्वमेकस्मिन् दिवसे नदीम् । धर्मारण्ये गतः स्नातुं धन्यां भागीरथीं शुभाम् ॥ ५.१८ ॥

vasaty-avirataṃ prātaḥ-snāyī triṣavaṇe rataḥ | nāmnā saṃyamanaḥ pūrvam ekasmin divase nadīm | dharmāraṇye gataḥ snātuṃ dhanyāṃ bhāgīrathīṃ śubhām || 5.18 ||

Autrefois, un homme nommé Saṃyamana, sans relâche dans sa discipline, se baignait à l’aube et s’adonnait aux rites des trois moments du jour. Un certain jour, il se rendit à Dharma-araṇya afin de se baigner dans la Bhāgīrathī, rivière bénie et de bon augure.
