Varaha Purana 25.48 — Adhyaya 25, Shloka 48

The Birth of Ahaṅkāra as Guha/Skanda and His Appointment as Divine Commander

FAQs

It preserves a Purāṇic rationale for associating a specific lunar day (Ṣaṣṭhī) with Skanda, illustrating how ritual calendars and deity cults were textually anchored in medieval Sanskrit literature.

No specific geographic site is named in this verse; the focus is calendrical (tithi) and ritual (abhiṣeka) rather than sacred geography.

The verse foregrounds the theme of purification—Skanda is described as a remover of moral impurity (pāpa)—supporting the broader Purāṇic idea that disciplined observance and remembrance are linked with ethical self-cultivation.
