ईश्वर उवाच । प्रकृतिश्च ततो बुद्धिरहंकारस्ततोऽभवत् । तन्मात्रपंचकं तस्मादेषा प्रकृतिरष्टधा

Transliteration

īśvara uvāca | prakṛtiśca tato buddhirahaṃkārastato'bhavat | tanmātrapaṃcakaṃ tasmādeṣā prakṛtiraṣṭadhā

Translation

Īśvara dit : « D’abord est la Prakṛti ; d’elle naît la buddhi (l’intellect), et de la buddhi naît l’ahaṃkāra (le sentiment du “moi”). De celui-ci procèdent les cinq tanmātras (éléments subtils). Ainsi la Prakṛti est dite octuple. »
