पुरा देवयुगे राजन्महिषोनाम दानवः । पितामहवराद्दृप्तः सर्वदेवभयंकरः

purā devayuge rājanmahiṣonāma dānavaḥ | pitāmahavarāddṛptaḥ sarvadevabhayaṃkaraḥ

Ô roi, jadis, dans un âge ancien des dieux, il y eut un Daitya nommé Mahiṣa. Enivré d’orgueil par une grâce du Grand-Père (Brahmā), il devint l’effroi de tous les devas.
