nāsti me kiñcidaprāptaṃ tathā'sādhyaṃ mahīpate | tasmāttava kariṣyāmi kṛtyaṃ yadyapi durlabham
The brāhmaṇa (Devaśarman, by immediate narrative continuity)
Type: kshetra
Listener: King Viṣṇusena
Scene: The brāhmaṇa speaks with calm authority, promising to perform the king’s requested rite though rare; the king listens with hope; ritual implements (kuśa, kamaṇḍalu, ladle) appear subtly.
Priestly duty includes enabling righteous rites for others—especially acts meant for ancestral uplift—without fear of difficulty.
Nāgahrada, presented as a potent setting where ritual action can bear liberating fruit.
Undertaking the required rite (kṛtya), which in this episode is the performance of śrāddha at the tīrtha.
