पर्वतानां यथा मेरुर्द्विपदानां द्विजोत्तमः । स्थानजानां तु विप्राणां श्रेष्ठोऽष्टकुलिकस्तथा
parvatānāṃ yathā merurdvipadānāṃ dvijottamaḥ | sthānajānāṃ tu viprāṇāṃ śreṣṭho'ṣṭakulikastathā
De même que le mont Meru est suprême parmi les montagnes, et que parmi les bipèdes le dvijottama—le meilleur des « deux-fois-nés »—est suprême, ainsi, parmi les brāhmaṇas natifs de ce lieu, l’Aṣṭakulika est pareillement le premier.
