Type: kshetra
Listener: Brāhmaṇī (and the princess)
Scene: Sage Bhartṛyajña begins instruction, promising a clear, stepwise account of austerities whose fruit is liberation, with heaven as an even easier consequence.
Properly guided tapas is presented as a direct means to mokṣa; lesser rewards like heaven are secondary byproducts.
The chapter belongs to a tīrtha-māhātmya setting, but this verse itself focuses on the fruits of tapas rather than naming the site.
It introduces that a detailed tapas-vidhi will be taught; the concrete austerities appear in the next verses.
