tretāyuge mahābhāga rāvaṇo devakaṇṭakaḥ | trailokyavijayī raudraḥ surāsurabhayaṃkaraḥ
«Dans le Tretā-yuga, ô toi le très fortuné, il y eut Rāvaṇa, fléau des dieux : farouche de nature, vainqueur des trois mondes, et source d’effroi pour les devas comme pour les asuras.»
