Type: kshetra
Listener: King (Rājan) and by extension all listeners
Scene: A recitation assembly by the river: a sage proclaims the Aṅkūreśvara māhātmya; listeners sit with folded hands, and above them a subtle vision of Śiva-loka as the promised fruit.
Devotional listening to sacred praise (māhātmya) is itself a liberating practice, leading to Śiva’s abode.
The Aṅkūreśvara-tīrtha māhātmya; the verse functions as its phalaśruti (promise of results).
Śravaṇa (devout hearing) of the māhātmya; implicitly, kīrtana/recitation as well.
