Inquiry into Śiva-knowledge and Śiva’s self-manifestation in creation

Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Īśāna
Cosmic Event: Early cosmogony: Brahmā’s first vision of the supreme progenitor during manifestation.
It asserts Shaiva Siddhanta’s core view that the Supreme Pati (Shiva) is prior to and above the creator-function; even Brahmā can perceive the Lord’s manifestation only through the Lord’s own sanction (ājñā), indicating grace as the basis of true knowledge.
The verse highlights Shiva’s ‘manifesting’ aspect—Saguna revelation accessible to devotees. Linga-worship similarly honors the Lord as the transcendent Pati made perceptible through a sacred form, known not by mere intellect but by divine permission and devotion.
A key takeaway is grace-oriented practice: japa of the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) with humility, coupled with Shiva-dhyāna, seeking the Lord’s ājñā (inner consent) for clear perception; if following Purāṇic observance, add Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) as a reminder of dependence on Shiva.
