संप्रेक्ष्य नासिकाग्रं स्वं दिशश्चानवलोकयन् । संभृतप्राणसंचारः पाषाण इव निश्चलः
saṃprekṣya nāsikāgraṃ svaṃ diśaścānavalokayan | saṃbhṛtaprāṇasaṃcāraḥ pāṣāṇa iva niścalaḥ

It teaches yogic steadiness (sthira-dhyāna): withdrawing attention from external directions, restraining prāṇa, and becoming unmoving so the mind can rest in Shiva as Pati—the liberator beyond bondage (pāśa).
Such inner stillness supports Saguna worship by making the devotee fit for one-pointed contemplation—whether on the Shiva-Linga, Shiva’s form, or the mantra—so devotion becomes steady rather than scattered.
A dhāraṇā-prāṇāyāma practice: sit firmly, keep the gaze at the nose-tip (nā́sikāgra-dṛṣṭi), avoid looking around, gently restrain the breath, and then continue Shiva-japa (e.g., Om Namaḥ Śivāya) in stillness.
