Mantra Efficacy, Removal of Obstacles, and the Role of Faith/Discipline
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pasha
Shiva Form: Paśupatinātha
Cosmic Event: Bondage by dveṣa (hatred) producing cognitive distortion (viparyaya)
It warns that hatred (dveṣa) warps perception: friends look like foes and foes become objects of contempt. In Shaiva Siddhanta, such distortion is a form of pāśa (bondage) that obscures right discernment and delays Shiva-realization.
Linga-worship trains the mind toward inner purity and evenness (samatā). By turning attention to Saguna Shiva with devotion, the devotee loosens hostile reactions and replaces dualistic fixation with reverence, humility, and clarity.
Practice japa of the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) with restraint of anger, and adopt a daily Shaiva discipline such as applying Tripuṇḍra bhasma as a reminder to burn hatred into detachment and compassion.
