आप्याययति यो विश्वममृतांशुर्निशाकरः । महादेवस्य सा मूर्तिर्महादेवसमाह्वया । आत्मा तस्याष्टमी मूर्तिः शिवस्य परमात्मनः । व्यापिकेतरमूर्तीनां विश्वं तस्माच्छिवात्मकम्

Celui qui nourrit et fait prospérer l’univers entier — la lune, porteuse de rayons semblables à l’ambroisie — est une forme manifestée de Mahādeva, connue sous le nom même de « Mahādeva ». C’est sa huitième forme, le Soi même de Śiva, le Soi suprême. Ainsi, de ses formes tout‑pénétrantes comme de ses formes distinctes (limitées), l’univers entier est de la nature de Śiva.
