Purification of the Worship-Space and Preparation of Ritual Vessels
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Ardhanārīśvara
Significance: Ardhanārīśvara worship dissolves ritual dualism and highlights inseparable Śiva-Śakti; the devotee receives integrative grace (anugraha) through non-preferential upacāra.
Type: stotra
Shakti Form: Pārvatī
Role: liberating
Offering: pushpa
It teaches that Ardhanārīśvara—Shiva inseparable from Shakti—is approached primarily through bhakti and right understanding, not through anxiety over a rigid ritual sequence; sincere offering is what purifies and uplifts the soul (paśu) toward Pati.
It affirms that upacāras may be offered to the Liṅga (a principal saguna symbol of Shiva) and, when appropriate, to other focal points of worship as well—indicating the essential unity of Shiva’s forms, including Ardhanārīśvara.
Adopt flexible but reverent pūjā: offer standard upacāras (water, flowers, incense, lamp) without obsession over order, while maintaining inner remembrance—ideally with japa of the Pañcākṣarī mantra “Om Namaḥ Śivāya.”
