It emphasizes that Shaiva rites begin with reverent worship and the Lord’s sanction; initiation is not mere technique but a grace-aligned act where the disciple is prepared to receive Śiva’s purifying power through abhiṣeka.
By worshipping the ‘Deveśa’ before the rite, the procedure centers on Saguna Śiva—commonly approached through the Liṅga—so that the consecration is performed as an offering and invocation of Śiva’s presence.
It indicates a formal abhiṣeka connected with dīkṣā: worship first, then seating the disciple on an āsana for consecration—typically accompanied by mantra-japa (often the Pañcākṣarī, “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) as per Shaiva ritual context.
