A devotee/supplicant addressing Lord Shiva (as narrated within Suta Goswami’s Shiva Purana discourse)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Paśupatinātha
Type: stotra
Role: liberating
It expresses śaraṇāgati (total surrender): the bound soul (paśu) prays for Shiva (Pati) to bestow grace, enter the devotee’s being, and cut the bonds (pāśa) that cause suffering—liberation is shown as arising from Shiva’s compassion.
The prayer addresses Shiva in personal, Saguna terms—Devadeveśa and Viśveśa—typical of Linga worship where the devotee approaches the Lord as the accessible, compassionate ruler who can indwell the heart and sanctify the embodied life.
A simple practice is heartfelt japa of the Panchakshara (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) with inner surrender, contemplating Shiva’s presence entering the heart/body, and praying for vimocana—release from inner impurities and bondage.
