It teaches that devotion becomes mature through Guru-sevā: giving useful supports for dharma (clothing, seat, rest, travel) to the Guru, without greed or display, and strictly within one’s capacity—purifying the bonds (pāśa) that tie the soul (paśu) and turning it toward Shiva (Pati).
In Shaiva tradition, the Guru is the living gateway to Shiva’s grace and correct Linga-worship; honoring the Guru with devotion supports right practice, right mantra, and right understanding of Saguna Shiva leading toward realization.
A practical takeaway is Guru-pūjā and dāna: offer necessities (āsana, vastra, etc.) after daily japa of the Panchākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”), dedicating the merit to Shiva and keeping the gift proportionate to one’s means.
