Determination of the Measures of Time

By defining tiny units of time, the text trains the mind to contemplate kāla as a binding power (pāśa) and to turn toward Pati (Lord Shiva), who transcends time; this supports vairāgya and the Shaiva aim of liberation.
Time-measurements are commonly used to structure saguna worship—japa counts, dhyāna durations, and pūjā intervals—so the devotee can practice steady devotion while remembering that Shiva, the Linga’s indwelling Lord, is beyond measurable time.
Use measured, consistent practice: perform Panchakshara japa ("Om Namaḥ Śivāya") with mindful timing—such as fixed rounds or a set meditation period—cultivating one-pointed awareness rather than rushing.
