Les uns erraient, les cheveux en désordre; les autres s’affaissaient assis, les membres longuement étendus. Les uns tombaient, le visage contorsionné et brisé dans l’expression; et d’autres—ces devas héroïques—poussaient de grands cris.

FAQs

It portrays the devas losing ordinary composure—moving, sitting, falling, and crying—when confronted with a force beyond conditioned mind and body, hinting at Shiva-tattva as transcendent (Pati) before whom worldly power and pride collapse.

Such reactions reflect encountering Saguna Shiva’s manifest presence and majesty; in Linga-worship, devotees approach that same overwhelming sanctity with reverence, surrender, and steadiness rather than fear, recognizing the Linga as the approachable sign of the Supreme.

Cultivate steadiness through japa of the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) and simple breath-centered meditation; approach worship with humility, applying bhasma (tripuṇḍra) as a reminder of impermanence and surrender to Shiva.
