गजासुरतपः–देवलोकक्षोभः
Gajāsura’s Austerities and the Disturbance of the Worlds
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pashu
Sthala Purana: Not a Jyotirliṅga episode; the verse functions as a mythic prelude: Devī’s victory restores deva-order, setting the stage for later Śiva-centric resolution of ensuing asuric retaliation.
Significance: Frames the purāṇic principle that divine intervention (Śiva/Śakti) restores dharma and grants kṣema (well-being) to devotees and cosmic administrators (devas).
Shakti Form: Durgā
Role: liberating
It highlights the restoration of dharma: when adharma is destroyed by divine śakti, the cosmic order becomes steady and beings aligned with righteousness attain peace.
The verse reflects Saguna divinity acting in history—Śiva’s grace is often shown through Śakti’s protective power; worship of the Liṅga honors the same Supreme (Pati) whose power manifests to remove obstacles to dharma.
A practical takeaway is protective devotion: recite the Pañcākṣarī ("Om Namaḥ Śivāya") with bhakti, and maintain Tripuṇḍra-bhasma as a reminder of surrender and inner steadiness amid conflict.
