Bāṇāsura’s Praise of Śiva and Petition for Battle

It portrays how even the highest cosmic offices—wealth (Kubera) and rulership (Indra)—are subordinate to the supreme order; from a Shaiva Siddhanta lens, it points to Pati (Shiva) as the ultimate Lord before whom ego, power, and possession must yield.
The verse reinforces Saguna Shiva’s lordship as the regulator of all devas and directions; Linga-worship trains the devotee to recognize Shiva as the inner sovereign beyond external rank, making pride ‘pay tribute’ through disciplined devotion.
A practical takeaway is to chant the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) with humility and offer water/bilva to the Shiva Linga, mentally surrendering wealth, status, and control—turning worldly ‘tribute’ into conscious devotion.
