Description of the Viṣṇu–Brahmā Dispute and Brahmā’s Confusion
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pasha
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Role: teaching
Cosmic Event: Tirodhāna (concealment) enacted as Śambhu’s Māyā deludes even a great deva, foregrounding Śiva’s transcendence.
The verse highlights that Māyā operates under Śiva’s lordship; when the soul forgets the Lord, the mind becomes disturbed, and repeated surrender (praṇipāta) becomes the doorway back to clarity and grace.
By calling Śiva “Bhava” and “Śambhu,” the text points to Saguna Śiva as the compassionate Lord who both veils and reveals; Linga-worship centers the devotee in humility so Māyā’s agitation subsides through steadfast devotion.
Repeated namaskāra and remembrance of Śiva—especially japa of the Pañcākṣarī “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”—is the practical takeaway for calming the agitated mind and moving from delusion toward Śiva’s grace.
