नारदस्य विष्णूपदेशवर्णनम् — Nārada and Viṣṇu: Instruction after Delusion
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Sthala Purana: Not a Jyotirliṅga legend; it asserts the purificatory power of devotion: even vast pāpa is nullified by bhakti to Maheśvara, indicating grace overriding karmic bondage.
Significance: General: encourages repentance and turning to Śiva; promises pāpa-kṣaya through sincere devotion.
Role: liberating
It teaches that sincere devotion (bhakti) to Lord Śiva has the power to burn away the karmic burden of even immense wrongdoing, affirming Śiva as the compassionate Pati who grants purification and liberation.
The verse supports Saguna worship—turning the mind toward Maheśvara through tangible forms like the Śiva-liṅga—because heartfelt devotion expressed in worship becomes the means for inner cleansing and grace.
Cultivate Śiva-bhakti through japa of the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) and regular liṅga-pūjā with bhasma and bilva leaves, paired with repentance and a vow to live dharmically.
