Hara—qui enlève toute souffrance—après nous avoir instruits en divers dharmas, nous accorda aussi de nombreuses grâces, voulant accomplir ce qui est salutaire pour nous deux.
Sūta Gosvāmin (narrating the Rudra Saṃhitā account to the sages)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Dakṣiṇāmūrti
Role: teaching
The verse presents Śiva as Sarva-duḥkha-hara: He first establishes dharma (right conduct and discipline) and then bestows grace (vara). In Shaiva Siddhanta terms, right living and devotion prepare the soul (paśu) to receive the Lord’s liberating compassion (pati-anugraha).
By naming Him Hara, the text emphasizes Saguna Śiva’s accessible, compassionate role: He teaches practical dharma and grants boons to devotees. Linga worship similarly approaches Śiva as the gracious Lord who removes suffering and guides the devotee from worldly aims toward higher good.
The implied takeaway is to follow Śiva’s dharma-upadeśa with regular worship: daily japa of the Panchākṣarī (Om Namaḥ Śivāya), simple abhiṣeka to the Śiva-liṅga, and a disciplined life of purity—so that His grace (vara) may bear fruit.
