Kartikeya (Skanda)
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Nīlakaṇṭha
Type: mahamrityunjaya
The verse teaches that true wisdom—knowledge steady across past, present, and future—flowers from śaraṇāgati (taking refuge) in Mṛtyuñjaya Śiva, who alone grants freedom from the fear of death and the bondage of saṃsāra.
By naming Śiva as Mṛtyuñjaya, the verse points to Saguna Shiva worship—approaching the Lord through a compassionate, accessible form and name—often centered on the Śiva-liṅga, where devotees seek protection, purification, and liberation.
It suggests śaraṇāgati supported by japa of the Mṛtyuñjaya mantra (and/or Panchākṣarī “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”), performed with steady remembrance of Śiva as the Death-conqueror—especially meaningful in Mahāśivarātri observances.
